CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Drone operators can meet new federal rules regarding handling these unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) through a new certificate program at Parkland College starting this fall.

The six hour UAS certificate prepares students to be certified under Federal Aviation Administration requirements to be a commercial UAS operator. The certificate consists of two courses, AVI 111 and AVI 112.  In AVI 111, students will learn about topics covered on the FAA exam including the history and types of UAS, FAA regulations, airspace, weather, and performance, as well as safety and ethical issues. In AVI 112, students will gain hands on experience operating a UAS as well as safety procedures.

If you are interested in either course, contact aviation recruiter Wendy Evans or UAS instructor Mandy Briggs for further information.
