New Flightstar Aviation Scholarship, Interview Agreements

New Flightstar Aviation Scholarship, Interview Agreements

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Flight students at Parkland College soon will have greater opportunities for employment as commercial pilots, under new agreements with Flightstar Corporation.

Flightstar has entered into an agreement with the Institute of Aviation at Parkland College for a biannual scholarship program. Flightstar will donate $1,000 to a single student, per semester, for assistance with tuition, fees and/or books. Each recipient will be selected by the Institute of Aviation Scholarship Committee.

In addition to the two annually awarded scholarships, Flightstar has agreed to interview qualifying students or graduates of the Institute program for any upcoming pilot positions. Applicants must meet the requirements listed in the agreement to qualify for pilot position interviews.

Flight training officials say the goal of the Pilot Career Interview Program is to increase Flightstar’s access to qualified applicants for employment in pilot positions while also increasing employment opportunities for Parkland’s qualified flight graduates.

"Flightstar and the Institute of Aviation have enjoyed a long standing relationship; this agreement only strengthens it," said Flightstar President Bill Giannetti. "Coupled with the current pilot shortage, we hope to not only encourage upcoming students to choose aviation, but to help keep graduating students local."
