With a little help, your dreams will soar.

Scholarships give you funds for college that you don't need to repay. And you don’t necessarily have to be an academic superstar. The Institute of Aviation offers a number of scholarships—both merit and need based.

Flight Training Scholarships
Application Information

  • For student pilots pursuing an FAA sport, recreational, or private pilot certificate.
  • Recipients chosen based on merit, including previous accomplishments, ability to set goals, and demonstrated commitment to flight training and general aviation.

The Dan L. Meisinger Sr. Memorial Learn to Fly Scholarship
Application Information

  • Established in the honor and memory of Dan L. Meisinger Sr., whose career in aviation spanned 63 years. He was founder of Executive Beechcraft, headquartered in Kansas City, Mo., and was twice named Beech Aircraft's Man of the Year.
  • Provides an annual flight training scholarship to a qualified individual.
  • Residents of Kansas, Missouri or Illinois given preference.

The Illinois Pilots Association Scholarship
Application Information

  • For a college student majoring in an aviation-oriented curriculum.
  • Must be a resident of the State of Illinois majoring in an aviation-oriented curriculum.
  • Must be full-time student at an Illinois college or university.

Women in Aviation International (WAI) Scholarships
Application Information

  • For members of Women in Aviation International.

Palwaukee Airport Pilots Association (PAPA) at Chicago Executive Scholarship
Application Form

  • $1,000.00
  • For an individual who is an Illinois resident.
  • Must be attending or planning to attend an accredited university, college, or aviation technical school located in the state of Illinois.

The Karen Johnson Solo Scholarship
Application Information

  • $3,000.00
  • Funds provided by the Ninety-Nines, Inc. (99s), with support from a 2013 Lightspeed Aviation Foundation grant.
  • Provides a young woman (age 16–20 during the calendar year) funding for flight training, through solo and beyond
  • Proof of financial need and financial information not required.

Amelia Earhart Memorial Scholarships
Application Information

  • The Amelia Earhart Memorial Scholarship Fund (AEMSF) offers full and partial scholarships awarded thought the year.
  • Funds provided by the Ninety-Nines, Inc. (99s), International Organization for Women Pilots.
  • Applicants must join the 99s as an Associate (student) member to submit application.

Calvin L. Carrithers Aviation Scholarship - Global Air
Application Form

  • $1,000.00
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be attending or planning to attend an accredited university, college, or aviation program.
  • Awardee must agree to blog about their flight training.

GAMA Scholarships
Application Form

  • Award amounts vary.
  • Must be attending or planning to attend an accredited university, college, or aviation program.

National Gay Pilot's Association
Application Form

  • $5,000.00
  • Must be be seeking to develop professional aviation skills and ratings beyond their private pilot certificate.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age at the date of application.

Get Into the Air Scholarship - Aviation Insurance Resources (AIR)
Application Form

  • $500.00
  • Open to student pilots to help further their training.

Joseph Frasca Excellence in Aviation Scholarship
Application Form

  • $1,000.00
  • Minimum of a 3.0 overall GPA.
  • Must be a junior or senior.
  • Membership in at least one Aviation organization such as Alpha Eta Rho, NIFA Flying Team, Experimental Aircraft Association, Warbirds of America, etc.

Eugene S. Kropf Scholarship
Application Form

  • $500.00
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be enrolled in and plan to continue a college curriculum leading to a degree in the field of aviation.
  • Minimum of a 3.0 overall GPA

Paul A. Whelan Scholarship
Application Form

  • $2,000.00
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be enrolled in and plan to continue a college curriculum leading to a degree in the field of aviation.
  • Sophomore, junior, senior or graduate student.
  • Minimum of a 2.5 overall GPA

Chicago Area Business Aviation Association (CABAA)
Application Form

  • $7,500.00
  • Open to both graduating high school seniors and college level students.

Navigate Your Future Scholarship
Application Form

  • $2,500.00
  • Open graduating high school seniors.
  • Enrolled or accepted into an aviation-related program at an accredited college or university aviation program.

Tyler Orsow / Chuck Kimes Memorial Seaplane Rating Scholarship
Application Form

  • Funds a complete seaplane training program for a single-engine sea rating.
  • Applicants should be 17 to 35 years of age and actively pursuing a career as a professional pilot.
  • Must have a private pilot certificate.
  • Must be a current paid SPA member.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

Flying Musicians Association Solo Scholarship
Application Form

  • Amount varies.
  • Nominated by Band or Music Director.
  • Must have a passion for music and aviation.
  • Junior or senior member of band.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

CAE Citation Type Rating Scholarship
Application Form

  • Amount varies.
  • Minimum of a 2.50 overall GPA.
  • Must possess a first class medical.
  • Must have a minimum of 50 hours of multi-engine time.
  • Must be available for training during summer months.

Sutter Passion for Flying Scholarship

  • Amount varies.
  • Must have a passion for aviation.
  • Pathway student, junior or senior in the University of Illinois Department of Aerospace Engineering.
  • Must be in good academic standing.
